The Wentworth Aircraft Family regretfully announces that Charles “Chuck” Wentworth passed away after a short illness on Saturday, November 30th, 2024 at the age of 92.
Born in Iowa, Chuck moved to Minneapolis for College, where he married and started a family.
Not content to work for others, he stated a variety of small businesses, and spent his late 20’s through his early 50’s in the used car business, as Chuck’s Used Cars, a successful car lot on Lake Street, the used car strip in Minneapolis.
He obtained his pilot’s license in 1973, and went on to amass 11,000 hours with Private, Commercial, Instrument, Instructor and Instrument Instructor (CFII) ratings.
A need for an engine for his training airplane caused him to think outside the box and consider buying an insurance totalled aircraft to supply what he needed.
With the help of son Steve, an A&P mechanic already working with him as a partner in Chuck’s Used Cars, they dissassembled that first airplane, used what they needed, and offered the rest for sale.
From that simple beginning, Wentworth Aircraft Inc. has grown to be the largest volume buyer of insurance salvaged aircraft, with well over 6,500 airplanes purchased to date, and more almost every day!
Although Chuck retired in 1994 from daily operations, he reinvented himself once again, as an over the road semi diver, picking up airplanes all over North America! He named that company “Gramps and Kids” and took pride in adding a silhouette of each new Grandchild and great Grandchild to the side of the trailer as they came along!
In addition, He and his Wife of 46 years, Jacquie, traveled the country in a 40′ motorhome, often with a trailer behind to bring back at least one airplane from wherever they were visiting!
Chuck and Jacquie also travelled extensively to Europe, adding friends in many countries, and instilling the love of travel to his children and grandchildren.
With a quick wit, a friendly smile and an open, accepting demeaner, Chuck could make friends in an instant, and often would keep them for a lifetime!
Well known in General Aviation circles, it would be difficult to find someone who knew Chuck that would not describe him as a great guy!
He will be sorely missed, by Family, Friends, and those who knew him!

I was looking for used, replacement grimes brass light posts, both red and blue. eBay only had a few red ones for sale so I came here not knowing what to expect. I was surprised to find that they had exactly what I was looking for.
I am restoring a Cessna 140 and hangar at Crystal. The guys at Wentworth have helped me numerous times. Today Kevin helped me with my strobe light system. He tested my power pack and traced the problem to my the strobe light which they had in stock. Now good to go. GOOD GUYS!!!!
